High energy prices in France ramp up inflation in April

In April, consumer prices grew annually by 5.9%, up from 5.7% in March, the growth in energy prices soared to 6.8% due to rising fuel prices.  

The high petrol prices slowed from 35.6% in March to 22.9%. 

In March, food prices grew annually by 15%, which is slightly slower than the 15.9% increase seen in March, but the cost of food increased more rapidly than the cost of energy, impacting inflation.  

43% of French consumers decreased their purchases of specific foods, and meat intake, and stopped eating dairy products due to inflation. 

They changed their shopping habits as 44% choose less expensive food and 30% are buying smaller quantities.
