Japan records lowest-ever GDP share at 4% in global economy

In 2022, Japan's economy had its worst year ever, making only $4.2 trillion, which is 4.2% of all the money the world made.
This is 0.9% less than the year before and the lowest since 1980.
Japan's money, called GDP per person, was $34,064 in 2022, but compared to other countries in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Japan went from 20th to 21st place.
This is the first time in 14 years that Japan is the lowest among the developed countries in the Group of Seven (G7).
The US had the most money in the world in 2022, with 25.1%, which is $25.4 trillion. China was next, with 17.7%, or $17.9 trillion.
