August sees a 1% drop in Canadian housing starts, totaling 252,787 units

In August, the standalone monthly seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) for total housing starts in Canada saw a drop of 1% to 252,787 units from the previous month's 255,232 units.

Among urban areas with a population of 10,000 or more, the monthly SAAR for total urban starts fell by 1.0% in August, registering 233,075 units. 

Multi-unit urban starts also saw a 1.0% decrease, reaching 191,250 units, while single-detached urban starts grew by 2% to 41,825 units. Rural starts were estimated at 19,712 units.

The trend in housing starts across Canada remained consistent, with 244,507 units.
