China funded a big social housing scheme in Nicaraguan
Posted on May 1, 2023 |
China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is building a project and is promoting it as the 1st major scheme following Nicaragua dropping its diplomatic recognition of Taiwan in favor of the People’s Republic in 2021.
The scheme is expected to conclude in 3 years and the 1st phase of the 12,034-unit scheme will contain 920 affordable homes, a central square, sports fields, and sustainable infrastructure.
The scheme was revealed 6 weeks after diplomatic relations were set between the two countries.
It describes China’s takeover from Taiwan and in 2021, “solidarity housing for vulnerable families” was the last scheme that provided 400 homes.
