Egypt is investing billions to expand its new capital, located 45 km east of Cairo, with initial residents arriving.

The New Administrative Capital (NAC) is Egypt's largest mega-project, aiming to address economic development and accommodate the nation's 105 million population.

Notable structures in the first phase of NAC launched eight years ago, include a 70-story tower (Africa's tallest), an opera house, a mega-mosque, and the Middle East's largest cathedral.

Government employees began transferring to ministries and offices in the new city in July, marking significant progress in the project.

Infrastructure developments in phase one include an electric train from eastern Cairo and plans for an elevated monorail starting this year.

Over 100,000 housing units are completed, with 1,200 families already moved in.

The Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD), majority-owned by the military, plans to appoint a consultant for the master plan of the capital's second, third, and fourth phases, each projected to accommodate 1.5 million residents.
