Housing starts in Canada jump 3% in January

Housing starts in Canada, adjusted for seasonal variations, increased by 3% in January to 239,739 units from 232,492 units in December.
Urban centers with populations over 10,000 recorded a 7% annual rise in housing starts, with 15,930 units in January compared to 14,883 units in January 2024.
Rural housing started reaching an estimated 19,096 units on a seasonally adjusted annual basis in January.
The six-month moving average for housing starts dropped by 2.5% in January to 236,892 units.
The trend measure, which averages total housing starts over six months, showed a decline in January.
