January sees a decline in US housing starts, building permits, and completions

In January, privately owned housing starts were at a rate of 1,331,000, a decrease of 14.8% from December's revised estimate.

Single-family housing starts totaled 1,004,000, showing a 4.7% decline from the revised December figure.

Building permits for privately owned housing units were at a rate of 1,470,000, down 1.5% from the revised December rate.

Single-family authorizations increased to 1,015,000, up 1.6% from the revised December figure.

Privately-owned housing completions in January were at a rate of 1,416,000, down 8.1% from the revised December estimate.

Single-family housing completions totaled 857,000, a decrease of 16.3% from the revised December rate.
