Oxford economist predicts 4-6 years to resolve China's real estate crisis

Posted on December 11, 2023

Oxford Economics University estimates it will take 4 to 6 years to finish building incomplete homes in China.

Although efforts are being made to assist developers financially and address real estate market challenges, the larger issue of incomplete homes may not see immediate resolution.

It is expected to take an additional 4 years to reduce the abundant supply in the market unless there's a significant surge in demand.

The increased supply is influenced by the secondary market, where families sell extra homes due to concerns about declining prices.

The substantial stock of developers poses a challenge for swift absorption by families.

The combined size of incomplete and pre-sold homes in China is approximately 20 times larger than that of the Country Garden real estate developer until the end of 2022.
