UK's consumer confidence falling, as homebuilding activity is down 50.7 in May
Posted on June 20, 2022 |
- In May, housebuilding activity fell to 50.7 from 53.8 in April and any figure above 50 indicates growth in activity, while below 50 denotes contraction.
- Since May 2020 when Covid was widespread, the PMI is at its lowest, during that period most housebuilders were forced to close sites but they worked safely and since then, the housing market saw a prolonged boom, despite wider economic pressures.
- This is a third straight month that the growth rate declined, after peaking in February with an index score of 61.5, moreover, higher borrowing costs and inflationary pressures will hinder growth over the next 12 months.
