UK plans to construct 1.5 million new homes under the Chancellor’s initiative

The housebuilding industry supports the new goal of constructing 1.5 million homes in England during the current Parliament.

The Chancellor has introduced planning system reforms to promote development.

Emphasis will be placed on off-site construction methods, including timber systems, for their speed, and eco-friendliness, and to address the lack of traditional building skills.

Mandatory housing targets will be reinstated by the end of July.

The government will identify and address key 'stalled sites' to progress large housing projects, starting with four sites in England to create over 14,000 homes: Liverpool Central Docks, Northstowe, Worcester Parkway, and Langley Sutton Coldfield.

Local authorities will receive support from 300 additional planning officers across the country.

These initiatives by the Chancellor aim to speed up housing development and tackle England's housing shortage.
