US construction building materials shortage eased in 2022

Posted on January 20, 2023   |

Since May 2022, in the US, the building materials shortage eased but the major exceptions are shortages of HVAC equipment and certain categories of ceramic materials (certain tiles, clay bricks, and cement-based building materials), which have worsened.

In October 2022, 80% of single-family builders registered either serious or some shortages in three categories of building products which are appliances (88%), transformers (86%), and windows and doors (83%).

The availability of lumber products improved since May 2021, which is consistent with the concurrent decline in lumber prices.
