Alberta strengthens ties with Japan’s forestry industry as U.S. trade disputes loom
Posted on December 13, 2024 |
Alberta is strengthening global trade ties in response to increasing demand for sustainable materials and new U.S. tariff threats.
A recent forestry trade mission to Japan emphasized Alberta’s commitment to expanding its export markets by building stronger relations with Japan, its second-largest export market for softwood lumber.
The trade mission was led by the Minister and Deputy Minister of the Government of Alberta’s Forestry and Parks ministry.
Delegates from Canada Wood and Alberta’s forest industry participated in the mission.
There is strong interest in sustainable wood products in Japan, particularly for new construction and mass timber applications like nail-laminated timber (NLT).
