Aussie firms to launch hardwood timber hub for engineered wood manufacturing

3 Australian forestry companies—Bluegum Plantations, Midway, and New Forests—are teaming up with the Green Triangle Forest Industries Hub (GTFIH) and the Victorian Forest Products Association (VFPA) to set up a hardwood timber manufacturing hub in Victoria.

They are planning feasibility studies to determine the best location and build a strong business case for this new manufacturing hub.

The hub will focus on using engineered soft and hardwood products, helping to expand the regional industry for hardwood-engineered timber.

A new engineered wood product, developed over two years, is a glue-laminated timber (glulam) made from bluegum eucalyptus grown in the Green Triangle region.

This glulam product supports the goals of GTFIH’s Splinters to Structures program, which aims to develop hybrid wood products.

The program is designed to meet the growing demand for sustainable wood in the housing and construction sectors.

The new hub could significantly boost Australia's hardwood-engineered timber industry and support regional economic growth.
