Australian government to enforce stricter timber laws from March 2025

Posted on January 23, 2025   |

The Australian Government will implement new rules on March 3, 2025, to stop illegally logged timber from entering Australian wood products.

These rules will help build trust in the responsible sourcing of timber among the government, businesses, and consumers.

The Illegal Logging Prohibition Amendment Act 2024 and the Illegal Logging Prohibition Rules 2024, finalized in December 2024, will take effect on March 3, 2025.

The new rules will require businesses to change some internal processes, and the government will provide guidance to support compliance.

From March to September 2025, the focus will be on educating businesses about the new rules and addressing non-compliance issues.
