Australian softwood log export prices fell by 29.3% in May

In May, Australia’s softwood log export prices fell by 29.3%.

91% of the country’s softwood exports went to India from several Australian states in April.

India dominates Australia's softwood exports, accounting for 95% of the total. 

Vietnam and South Korea receive 4% and 1% of the exports, respectively.

Most of Australia's softwood exports went to China before the ban, with over 99% of the market share.

In May 2023, exports to India fell by 30.2% to AUDFob97.30 per m³ from April and 3.8% lower than in 2022.

In May 2023, Australia’s total exports of softwood logs fell by 42% to 0.456 million m³ compared to 2022.

In the same period, Australia’s hardwood log exports reached 9,781 m³, a drop from 30,676 m³ in April.
