Posted on December 27, 2021   |

  • B.C. government released a progress report in early November that stated the government made progress on the suggestions of its Old-Growth Strategic Review Panel and is working with First Nations to defer old-growth harvesting in their regions or to develop a new approach to sustainable forest management.
  • The government reached all 204 First Nations in British Columbia asked for suggestions on the proposed deferrals, out of which 161 suggested.
  • The nations that chose to instantly defer harvesting, will occur by licensees agreeing to voluntarily halt harvest or by a minister’s order under Part 13 of the Forest Act, rejecting approved permits and preventing new permits from being issued.
