BC launched forest management rules, adding transparency to requirements
Posted on July 3, 2023 |
B.C. introduced modifications to its forest management rules that will add clarity to forest rights, legal protection of rare habitats, and improved management of recreation sites and trails.
Under the new rules, licensees will publicize forest operations maps, including proposed cut blocks and roads, and make them available for public feedback.
The province developed an optional web-based tool to display maps and invite public feedback, which will launch next year.
A new regulation under the Forest and Range Practices Act will create a new protected habitat, Ecological Communities, designed to protect rare and endangered species.
