BC to invest $50 million in mills to ease supply issues with the utilization of low-value wood
Posted on February 21, 2023 |
The government of British Columbia will provide $50 million in funds to get more fire-damaged wood, logging waste, and other low-value fiber to mills facing supply problems.
The new funding is part of the Forest Enhancement Society of BC (FESBC) which aims to keep people working and local mills running, while also mitigating wildfire risks and climate emissions.
FESBC supported 263 projects in B.C. of which 43 projects have been in partnership with First Nations, benefiting 120 communities and creating 2,200 full-time-equivalent jobs.
