China decreased timber imports by 23% in Q1, Q2, and Q3 2022

In China, in the first 3 quarters of 2022,  a little over 61 million m³ of forest products were imported, which is a decrease of 23% on an annualized basis.

In this volume, imports of sawn softwood fell by 20% to 17 million m³, supplies of sawn hardwood accounted grew by 13% to 11 million m³ (+13%), and softwood Roundwood imports accounted for 22.9 million m³ (-40%).

At the same time, the demand for wood in China is still high due to the growing construction industry but supplies to the country are reduced by European and Russian manufacturers
