Conifex to cut production at Mackenzie, BC sawmill

Posted on August 26, 2024   |

Conifex will reduce its sawmill operations in Mackenzie, BC, to a single shift starting August 26 due to expected transportation issues and poor market conditions.

The company will also temporarily scale back its power plant operations, with normal operations expected to resume by September 30.

Anticipated transportation challenges affecting all Canadian lumber producers are a major factor in these operational changes.

Unfavorable lumber market conditions have led Conifex to adjust its production schedule.

As of August 19, Conifex’s Forest Licenses A15385 and A93631 have had their allowable annual cuts (AAC) reduced by 117,172 cubic meters and 55,576 cubic meters, respectively.

The new AACs for these licenses are 515,328 cubic meters and 244,424 cubic meters, resulting in a total sawlog supply of 759,752 cubic meters per year.

Conifex holds a 50% stake in these forest licenses, which impacts the overall sawlog availability.
