EU Commission launches proactive inquiry into Russian birch plywood evasion
Posted on August 29, 2023 |
The European Commission initiated an official probe into alleged evasion of EU anti-dumping regulations by Russian birch plywood producers and traders.
The investigation focuses on verifying the origin of imports from Kazakhstan and Türkiye into the EU, particularly since these nations were not significant birch plywood producers previously.
With anti-dumping duties and sanctions against Russian producers, imports from Türkiye and Kazakhstan have seen a noticeable uptick.
Effective immediately, imported plywood must be registered upon entry to EU borders, enabling retroactive application of extended anti-dumping duties if circumvention is detected.
The EU's resolute actions underscore its commitment to enforcing anti-dumping duties and tackling attempts to bypass regulations, while also ensuring compliance with sanctions against Russia.
UPM Plywood partners with the Woodstock Consortium to aid EU authorities in the investigation, demonstrating collective industry support in the matter.
