European wood-based panel production fell by 6.3% in 2023.

OSB was the only panel product to grow, rising 2% to 6.6 million m³ from 6.5 million m³ in 2022.

Particleboard production, the largest segment, decreased by 5% to 30.9 million m³ from 32.5 million m³ in 2022.

MDF production dropped by 11%, reaching 11.1 million m³ compared to 12.5 million m³ in 2022.

Softboard production, which had been growing recently, declined by 6% to 4.8 million m³ from 5.2 million m³ in 2022.

Plywood and hardboard production saw significant declines, with plywood down 15% to 2.6 million m³ and hardboard down 17% to 400,000 m³.
