Finland cut timber products exports by 7% and imports by 56% in 2022

In January-November 2022, the value of exports of forest industry products fell by 7% to 13.84 billion euros compared to the corresponding periods of the previous decade. 

In the same period, the volume of timber imported to Finland fell by 56% to 5.05 million m³ compared to the corresponding period of 2021.

In November 2022, forest products worth 1.29 billion euros were exported from the country of which 16% of them were wood products

Finland’s Keitele Group sees a temporary slowdown in the demand for lumber and wood products which started in June of 2022 and is continuing with no quick relief in sight. 

The high-interest rates, expensive energy, global economic situation, rising cost of logs, and the log harvesting process challenged construction, building repair, and remodeling, diminishing other sawmills' profitability.
