Finland's 2023 timber trade sees decline in the first 8 months

In the first 8 months of 2023, the country saw a drop in the use of timber and timber products in foreign trade.

August saw forest product exports valued at €0.96 billion, which is 18% lower than the 2022 monthly average.

During August, wood imports soared to 0.28 million m³, and prices for most imported logs and pulpwood were lower compared to 2022, except pine pulpwood, which grew by 3% to €64 per m³.

The total volume of wood imports in August was 39% less than the 2022 monthly average, and year-to-date imports from January to August were 2% less than the same period in 2022.

The total value of forest product exports from January to August 2023 reached 8.11 billion euros, marking a 13% decline compared to the same period in 2022.

In August 2023, the export price for sawn timber was 208 euros per m³, which is 30% lower than the average price from the previous year.
