Finland's exports of timber products fell by 6% and imports by 59% in January-August

  • In January-August 2022, the value of exports of the country's forest industry products reached 10.02 billion euros, a decrease of 6% on an annualized basis.
  • In August, the value of exports fell by 1% to 1.33 billion euros compared to August 2021.
  • At the same time, the value of exports of woodworking products grew by 4% to 3.097 billion euros over the previous year but the value of sawn timber exports fell by 1% and in volume by 6%. 
  • In January-August 2022, wood imports to Finland fell by 59% to 3.50 million m³ compared to the same period last year which contain 52% pulpwood, 32% chips, and 2% logs, and compared to the same period of 2021, pulpwood imports decreased by 63%, chips by 60%, and logs by 70%.
  • In August, timber imports fell year-on-year by 56% to 0.43 million m³, and most of the timber was imported from Russia, but 37,000 m³ of eucalyptus timber was imported from Uruguay, which accounted for 13% of pulpwood shipments in August.
