Finnish timber buyers increase roundwood purchases by 20% in January

Finland’s roundwood purchases increased by 20% in January compared to last year, surpassing the 5-year January average by 33%. 

Log sales grew by 38%, while pulpwood sales rose by 24%.

Pine logs in standing sales stayed at €80.07 per cubic meter. 

Spruce logs dropped by 1% to €82.18, and birch logs fell by 1% to €65.32. Compared to last year, spruce logs cost 3% more, pine logs increased by 4%, and birch logs stayed the same.

Pulpwood prices in standing sales fell by 2% to 3% from December. Spruce pulpwood dropped to €33.38, pine pulpwood to €31.62, and birch pulpwood to €31.82. 

However, all were still 2% to 4% higher than last year’s average.

In delivery sales, pulpwood prices stayed around €53. 

Spruce pulpwood dropped by 2% to €53.15, pine pulpwood remained at €52.73, and birch pulpwood increased by 1% to €53.17.

Finland’s timber market remained strong, with log sales rising sharply compared to past years. 

Despite small price changes, values stayed above last year’s average.
