Increased forestry activity in Ireland will add over €27 million (US$28.39 million) to the rural economy in 2025.

The Department of Agriculture approved 560 afforestation licenses in 2024, covering 4,417 hectares (10,915 acres).

Farmers planted around 1,650 hectares (4,077 acres) in both 2023 and 2024, earning €10 million through grants and premiums.

Grants and premiums for new forestry projects are expected to reach €27.5 million next year.

Farmers can receive up to €6,744 per hectare for planting and annual premiums of €1,103 per hectare for 20 years.
