Growing pallet shortages wreak havoc on Australian supply chains as the holiday season approaches

In Australia, the pallets that are in syndication are breaking up, because of overuse and restoration is taking too long, so no new pallets are coming to market.

There are not enough pallets and big retailers such as Coles and Woolworths are now grasping onto pallets for their food business.

Currently, pallet prices for end users have increased by 60-70%, which is bad as end users are paying more than they were last year to secure the stock they need, which may ease the economy but the difference between supply and demand is greater and will take some time to stabilize.

The demand for timber used in pallets doubled which drove pallet users to find options, putting more pressure on the supply of reused pallets and the pandemic quickened the move to online shopping creating a much higher level of demand from internet retailers.
