HS Timber Group cuts sawmill capacity to 30% in Romania
Posted on January 24, 2022 |
- HS Timber Group will close down its sawmill in Radauti and the panel plant in the Siret, impacting 600 employees.
- The reason for the cut down is, in Romania, the timber market is in unstable legislative conditions under which the purchase of round timber has been restricted since 2016, and Ukraine and Russia are unavailable for raw material purchases due to export bans.
- The slow railway infrastructure in the region, laborious import bureaucracy, make timber imports from the other EU Member States very difficult, and the production of green energy and the sale of green certificates is difficult.
- 600 employees will be affected by the restructuring and the company is trying its best to offer as many of them as possible opportunities to continue working within the group's units.
