Posted on October 14, 2024 |
The Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) estimates that Hurricane Helene caused $1.28 billion in timber damage across 8.9 million acres of forest.
The GFC is working with state and federal partners to assist affected landowners.
Hurricane Idalia hit Georgia in 2023, impacting 6.59 million acres, but only 116,526 acres were affected.
Of those, 11,069 acres were damaged, resulting in $9.26 million in timber losses.
The GFC is providing a conservative estimate for Helene's impact as they continue to assess the damage.
