Interfor and West Fraser to cut lumber production due to uncertainty in the market

Posted on January 17, 2023   |

Interfor Corporation plans to lower its lumber production output in Q1 of 2023 by 100 million board feet, or 8% of quarterly capacity due to economic conditions and market uncertainty.

The temporary reduction in output is expected to be outside of Interfor’s US South operating region.

The company expects to resume its normal operating schedule in April 2023 but will monitor market conditions and adjust production plans accordingly.

West Fraser will indefinitely curtail lumber production in its Perry Sawmill in Florida.

The curtailment will impact 126 employees and will reduce the company’s US lumber production by 100 million board feet.

West Fraser expects to mitigate the impact on affected employees by providing work opportunities at other West Fraser operations.
