Interfor announces production cutbacks due to ailing lumber market
Posted on February 19, 2024 |
Interfor has announced the indefinite closure of its sawmill operations in Philomath, Oregon.
Sawmill production will immediately decrease, with operations expected to conclude by the end of the first quarter of 2024.
The company will continue operating its 3 U.S. Northwest stud mills located in Molalla, Oregon, Longview, Washington, and Port Angeles, Washington.
Additionally, Interfor plans to temporarily reduce lumber production by 30 million board feet at its British Columbia operations in the first quarter of 2024.
These decisions are attributed to a blend of poor market conditions, low log inventory levels, and unusually warm weather impacting log deliveries across various areas of British Columbia.
