Interfor to sell Québec manufacturing facilities and close the Montréal office

Interfor Corporation announced it will exit its Québec operations, sell three manufacturing facilities, and close its Montréal office.

The company has agreed to sell its sawmills in Val-d'Or and Matagami, along with the Sullivan remanufacturing plant in Val-d'Or, to Chantiers Chibougamau Ltée (CCL).

The sale is valued at $30 million, with adjustments, and CCL will take on certain liabilities as part of the deal.

Interfor and CCL will enter a long-term agreement for CCL to supply Machine Stress Rated (MSR) lumber to Interfor’s engineered wood products facility in Ontario.

Interfor plans to close its Montréal office in the coming months permanently.

The company will continue operating its five sawmills and I-Joist facility in Ontario, along with two sawmills and a woodlands business in New Brunswick.
