Ireland's latest initiative to fuel timber use in construction projects

Ireland initiated the establishment of a new group to explore the potential for increasing the use of timber in construction.

The Minister of State responsible for Land Use and Biodiversity within the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine will be responsible for appointing members to the group.

In September, Ireland launched an initiative known as the Forestry Program, with a budget of €1.3 billion (equivalent to $1.40 billion).

This program aims to provide financial incentives to landowners for establishing new timber forests.

Eligible participants in this program stand to receive €4,452 ($4,757) for each hectare of land (2.5 acres) designated for tree cultivation.

Moreover, they can receive yearly payments of up to €863 (equivalent to $922) over 20 years.

The program is designed to encourage the planting of diverse types of trees, including those with broad leaves.
