IWPA demands response as U.S. lumber tariffs hit B.C. sector

The Independent Wood Processors Association of British Columbia (IWPA) has criticized the U.S. Department of Commerce for raising anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Canadian softwood lumber to 14.54%.

The IWPA claims these higher duties unfairly affect B.C.’s value-added wood industry, especially small, family-owned businesses.

B.C. companies must pay duties twice: once on raw materials and again on the value-added portion of finished products.

Products like decking, siding, and garden fencing are hit with these increased duties, raising their prices.

The higher duties make B.C. wood products less competitive in the market.
