Lumber prices up by 120% due to supply chain dysfunctions
Posted on December 4, 2021 |
- The futures price for framing lumber hit $870 per thousand board feet which is 124% higher than August.
- Sawmills curtailed softwood lumber production due to wildfires in the U.S. Pacific Northwest and British Columbia floods and mudslides which pushed prices up by 40%.
- But floods and mudslides caused by heavy rain damaged roads and bridges and caused destruction in the wood products supply chain and the U.S. Department of Commerce doubled the export duty on lumber from 8.99% to 17.9%, which drove the prices high.
