Metsä Group to stop production at Suolahti plywood mill in Finland
Posted on December 5, 2024 |
Metsä Group has completed discussions about the future of its Suolahti plywood mill, which began in October, and decided to close it in stages.
The birch plywood production will stop by the end of Q1 2025, and spruce plywood operations will end by late 2026.
The Suolahti mill currently produces 35,000 m³ of birch plywood and 160,000 m³ of spruce plywood each year.
About 370 employees were part of the discussions, which covered the closure plans and staff arrangements.
Metsä Group announced its plan to shut down the mill in mid-October.
The company will provide permanent employees with options to transfer to other Metsä Group facilities.
