Q3 saw continued growth in UK timber imports

Posted on November 13, 2023   |

July 2023 saw an increase in timber imports, with 5% more timber brought in compared to the same time last year.

This upward trend began in June when the total timber volumes grew by 2.2% compared to 2022.

Notably, types of wood known as oriented strand board (OSB) and medium-density fiber (MDF) contributed to this rise, with their volumes increasing by 32% and 7%, respectively.

While timber imports for 2023 are still below last year's levels, the gap is closing, reducing from 7% in the period from January to June to 5% from January to July.

The most significant drop in yearly import volume is in the hardwood category, which is down by 24% compared to the previous year.
