Russia extended prohibitive export duties on soft and hardwood rough lumber till 2025

Posted on January 9, 2023   |

Russia expanded its prohibitive export duties on soft and hardwood rough-sawn lumber with moisture content over 22% for 3 years until December 31, 2025, which has been used as cover for exporting unprocessed timber.

In November 2021, the original Russian government resolution was approved to impose prohibitive export duties on rough forest products from January 2 to December 31, 2022, to prohibit exports of unprocessed timber under the pretense of lumber (so-called ‘cover goods’).

Russia almost completely banned exports of unprocessed soft and hardwood timber since January 1, 2022, and it can be shipped out only via 2 checkpoints on the borders with Finland and North Korea.
