Russian sawn softwood imports to China fell by 7% in H1 2022

  • In H1 2022, sawn timber imports to China fell by 7% to 13.04 million m³ but grew by 7% to $3.835 billion in value, compared to the first half of 2021.
  • The average sawnwood price grew by 16% to $294 per m³ compared to the same period last year.
  • The total imports of sawn softwood fell by 15% to 8.25 million m³, which accounts for 63% of the national total, and it is 6% less compared to the same period in 2021.
  • However, sawn hardwood imports grew by 9% to 4.78 million m³ as shipments from Thailand, Russia, the Philippines, and Gabon increased by 13%, 20%, 14%, and 11%, respectively.
  • From January to June, the total volume of sawn hardwood imports into China grew by 10% to 3.16 million m³ and 4% to $954 million in value.
