San Group cuts operations at BC sawmill & manufacturing plant due to log shortage

Posted on October 21, 2024   |

San Group is temporarily closing its large log sawmill and value-added manufacturing plant in Port Alberni, BC, due to a lack of fiber supply and low log stock, affecting around 75 workers.

The nearby small-log sawmill has enough logs to last for one or two more weeks, with some logs coming from Vancouver Island.

The value-added plant, which makes engineered cedar products from thin veneer sheets, will shut down for at least two weeks starting Monday because of the lumber shortage.
