Södra, Vida suspend sawmill operations in Sweden amid timber shortage

Posted on February 20, 2025   |

Södra plans to temporarily shut down all its sawmills this winter due to rising timber prices caused by supply shortages.

Vida suspended operations at all 12 of its sawmills in southern Sweden earlier in February for similar reasons.

Both companies are managing production schedules strategically to optimize resource use.

They expect to restart normal operations by spring as supply conditions improve.

Timber prices have surged 50% since early 2024, adding pressure to the industry.
