Stora Enso to shut its Näpi sawmill in Estonia, affecting 100 employees

Stora Enso will shut its Näpi sawmill in Estonia, Finland’s Sunila pulp production unit, Netherland’s De Hoop containerboard site, and 1 containerboard line in Poland.

The company will close the Näpi sawmill in Q4 2023 due to inadequate long-term raw material availability, high wood prices, and lower profitability.

The sawmill has an annual capacity of 50,000 m³ of sawn timber, 180,000 m³ of extra processed wood products, and 25,000 tonnes of pellets.

The company will develop and be better equipped to support the growing demand for its renewable products.

The restructuring will cut annual sales by 380 million euros ($410.67 million), while its operating profit (EBIT) is expected to grow by 110 million euros each year.
