Timber supplies in the UK remain strong despite a 15% decline in import volumes

- In the first 7 months of 2022, overall import volumes fell by 15% to 6.1 million m³ from 7.2 million m³ imported during the same period in 2021 but stocks are steady and supply patterns are returning to pre-pandemic levels following record demand last year.
- Softwood imports are likely to fall further by 500,000 m³ between the 1st and 2nd halves of this year.
- After reaching the top of 7.6 million m³ imported in 2021, overall softwood imports will fall to 6.1 million m³ in 2022 but some categories saw import growth, with hardwood imports growing by 23% compared to 2021.
