Ukraine ramps up log exports amid government financial struggles

Ukraine is increasing the production of timber and building new forest roads to support struggling processors.
The government is also working to address corruption issues in the industry.
Due to uncertainty at borders and the holiday period in the EU, there is a decrease in the demand for wood, leading many processors to take a break.
The ongoing border blockade has caused more than 50% of processors to leave the market, blocking Ukrainian access to Asian markets.
This resulted in a significant economic loss of 1 billion hryvnia (US $25 million) in forest exports in December alone.
Ukraine is working with the US and the EU to remove landmines from forests, fields, and roads every month.
Military activities have affected at least 3.5 million hectares of forests in Ukraine and Crimea.
