U.S. hardwood lumber exports to MENA grew by 2% in volume but an 8% surge in value

From January to September 2024, U.S. hardwood lumber exports to the MENA region increased 2% in volume, totaling 59,395 cubic meters, while their value rose 8% to reach USD 50.92 million.
The UAE led growth in the MENA region, with U.S. hardwood exports up 50% in volume to 17,327 cubic meters and 56% in value, totaling USD 14.82 million.
U.S. hardwood demand in Saudi Arabia remained steady, while demand in Israel, Jordan, and Turkey was lower.
Red oak was the most popular U.S. hardwood export to the MENA region, making up 56% of the total volume and used widely in furniture and interior joinery.
U.S. veneer exports to MENA saw a slight 4% decrease in value, totaling USD 18.60 million, due to varying demand for specific wood products.
In South Africa, U.S. hardwood exports surged 44% in volume to 11,945 cubic meters, with a 45% increase in value, reaching USD 9.59 million.
South African buyers showed strong demand for white oak, ash, and red oak, with red oak making up 56% of the hardwood volume shipped there.
