US Southern pine lumber exports grew by 11% in 2024 amid quarterly swings

Southern Pine lumber exports rose 17% in the first 9 months of 2024, reaching $168.7 million compared to the same time in 2023.

Exports dropped 10% in Q3 2024 compared to Q2 but increased 11% compared to Q3 2023.

Monthly exports grew 3% in August 2024 and jumped 20.9% compared to September 2023. Softwood imports fell 6.3% year-over-year in September but increased 1.2% from August.

Softwood imports stayed steady at 1.1 MBF during the first nine months of 2024, despite a 4.3% drop in August and a 3.8% decrease in July compared to 2023.

Mexico was the top buyer of Southern Pine lumber at $46.6 million, followed by the Dominican Republic with $41.3 million and India with $13.1 million.

Treated lumber exports stayed flat at $103.1 million, with Jamaica accounting for $17.6 million, the Leeward-Windward Islands $16.1 million, and the Dominican Republic $8.4 million.
