US wood pellet exports climb in September, hitting nearly 900,000 tons

In September, the US exported 898,128 metric tons of wood pellets, increasing from 775,296 metric tons in August and 797,296 metric tons in September 2023.

The US sent wood pellets to about 16 countries in September, with the UK receiving the most at 573,006 metric tons, followed by the Netherlands with 128,208 metric tons, and Japan with 92,064 metric tons.

US wood pellet exports were valued at $167.15 million in September, up from $136.6 million in August and $147.55 million in September 2023.

From January to September 2024, the US exported a total of 7.41 million metric tons of wood pellets, compared to 7.07 million metric tons in the same period in 2023.

The total value of US wood pellet exports for the first nine months of 2024 reached $1.38 billion, up from $1.3 billion in the same period last year.

Higher export volumes and values show an increasing demand for US wood pellets in markets worldwide, especially in Europe and Asia.
