USDA Forest Service announces $34 million for forestry innovation and job creation

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service has allocated $34 million to enhance innovation and job creation in the forestry sector.

This funding stems from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act.

The grants are available through three key programs: Wood Innovations, Community Wood, and Wood Products Infrastructure Assistance.

The agency is looking for proposals that focus on sustainable wood applications in construction and renewable energy.

Since 2021, the Forest Service has funded nearly $190 million for 482 projects, securing an additional $618 million in matching funds.

These initiatives aim to mitigate risks related to wildfires, disease, and infestations by promoting markets for sustainably sourced wood.

The agency encourages proposals from a variety of stakeholders, including tribes, government entities, and businesses.

These investments align with the Forest Service's decade-long strategy to enhance forest health and tackle the wildfire crisis.
