  • In January-June, the loading of roundwood and sawn timber by rail in Russia fell by 17% to 18.8 million tons compared to the last year.
  • Timber transportation in the country grew by 4% to 10.7 million tons compared to H1 2021 and export of timber products by rail declined by 35% to 7.8 million tons.
  • The export of timber from the country by rail from January to June fell annually by 35%, export of unprocessed timber fell by 60% (2 million tons), and sawn timber by 18% (5.8 million tons).
  • The decline in transportation volumes is due to a suspension in exports to Finland in March, restraints at land border crossings, competition with other types of cargo, and a ban on the export of unprocessed coniferous and valuable deciduous forests from Russia.
